“Leader Langur” – that’s the name that people often refer to Uncle Vo Ngoc Danh every time he meets, talks or propagates to people about the protection of the gray-shanked douc langur in Tam My Tay commune, Nui Thanh, Quang Nam.
For those who meet Uncle Danh for the first time, everyone is likely to be attracted by the lovely and inspirational stories he tells about the langurs that he is “taking care of” as his descendants. Uncle Danh was the first person to voluntarily protect the langurs at Hon Do mountain by doing simple things such as mobilizing people not to encroach on the natural forest, saving the remaining forest for the langurs to live, daily going up the mountain. in the care of the langur herd, driving away the people trapping animals, trapping birds… then gradually established the Pioneer Group for the conservation of the gray-shanked douc in Tam My Tay commune, consisting of 19 present-day members.
Through his long association with the langur herd since the 2010s, Uncle Danh’s understanding of the behavior, living area and characteristics of each langur family in all four mountainous areas really impressed the listeners. Even scientists were amazed with his practical knowledge.
